Creating a segment in Marketing Cloud via our Segment Designer is a breeze. Even without using SQL activities in Marketing Cloud. Because, our Segment Designer offers a visual drag-and-drop interface. The first thing you should be aware of is that Activation Studio uses the data relationships available within the Data Designer of your Salesforce Marketing Cloud business unit. This means that only data extensions included in a Data Designer Attribute Group are available for segmentation.
All Subscriber List Email Studio
The second thing that you should be aware of is that the all subscriber lists (_Subscribers data view) are the starting point of any segment created within our Segment Designer for Marketing Cloud. This means that contacts that haven’t received an email yet or who haven’t been imported, won’t be part of the segment. It is best practice to setup an automation to import all contacts that meet the criteria to be seen as a subscriber.

Using segments in Journey Builder
After creating a segment, you can directly start designing your journey by clicking the Journey Builder icon. After clicking this icon, we will store the relationship between the journey and segment to pull in metrics like opens, clicks and more.
